Why I Started This New Podcast

In this first ever episode of The Women’s Footy Podcast, Jacob shared his personal journey into fitness, starting from his teenage years when he decided to get fit by running laps of the oval behind his house. He talked about his involvement in various sports and how he got into the gym at the age of 15. He also emphasised the importance of simplifying his life and doing one thing well, hence focusing on female footballers.

Jacob also reflected on his career journey, starting from his uncertain post-high school days to becoming a teacher and starting his own fitness business. He shared how his mother's suggestion of teaching PE led him to pursue a double degree in sports science and teaching, and how he struggled through the first few years of the degree.

Jacob also shared his experience of working multiple jobs while raising a young family and how he got the opportunity to work with the Adelaide Crows through a recommendation from Dean Rioli. He talked about how he was surprised to get the job without an interview or resume and how he felt privileged to be recommended for the job. Jacob emphasised the importance of over delivering, whether working for oneself or as an employee, and believes that it is a key factor in building a successful career.

He also discussed his journey working with Stephanie Williams on her ACL rehab and how it led him to realise that female footballers were his most common clients. He talked about his 12-month periodised program, which includes a pre-season and in-season program divided up into 12 phases, and how it is designed to build the athlete up from day one of pre-season to grand final day.
