Pint FC Coach ~ Shannon Motlop
In this episode of The Mind Your Body Show, Jacob interviewed Shannon Motlop. The episode began with the pair discussing Shannon's involvement in his family business: Something Wild; a native food and beverage company. Shannon discussed his role harvesting green ants for distilling in their world-famous Green Ant Gin. Shannon explained the process of collecting the ants and the health benefits of consuming them. He also shared his childhood memories of growing up around the Nightcliff football club and playing all sports in Darwin. Shannon discussed his journey from playing for North Adelaide Football Club to being drafted by North Melbourne at the age of 19 and the challenges he faced early on in his career.
Shannon also discussed the intense training sessions they had to go through to secure their spots in the team at North Melbourne under Denis Pagan, including a grueling "Who wants it?" session. Shannon shared his experience of the competitive drills and training sessions, including how he thought he was out of the side after a particularly tough session before the grand final. They also talked about Shannon's time playing with his brother Daniel at the Kangaroos and how they both eventually left the team.
Shannon discussed his coaching philosophy, emphasizing the importance of building relationships with players and creating a positive experience for them. He reflected on the previous season and the challenges of recruiting locally. Shannon also discussed the importance of having an experienced team when it comes to playing in a grand final, and how a younger developing side could win a premiership.
