Waratah FC Premiership Coach ~ with Ryan Ayres

Ryan was born and raised in Darwin and went to Sanderson Primary and Sanderson High School. He began playing football at the age of 9. Growing up Ryan was always involved in sports and loved challenging himself. He was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to represent the Northern Territory in the primary school championships in years 5, 6, 7, U15s, 16s, and 18s while also representing the NTFL Mens Australia Day team at the age of 16. Through this exposure and playing NTFL senior football from the age of 15 he was drafted to the Melbourne Football Club at the end of 2001.

 

Multiple injuries brought Ryan’s playing days to an end at an early age however he was not ready to walk away from the sport and he has taken on multiple coaching roles since. Ryan’s experiences from the field and gaining knowledge through assistant coaching roles with originally Waratah, Southern Districts, and NT Thunder before returning as a senior coach at Waratah in 2018. After winning a premiership in 2022/23 he is looking to instil sustained success going forward.
