MYB 010: BMI Debunked - Why Measurements Need More Attention

You may have heard of BMI, or Body Mass Index. The BMI measurement was first derived in the early to mid-1800s by Adolphe Quetelet, a Belgian astronomer, mathematician, statistician and sociologist. So far in modern history, the BMI has been seen as the only number that “if not fully satisfactory, [the BMI] is at least as good as any other relative weight index as an indicator of relative obesity” (Ancel Keys, Journal of Chronic Diseases, 1972). Today, guest blogger Sam Todd puts things into perspective when it comes to BMI. In this episode you'll learn: - What BMI is - How it's calculated - The weight class categories you fall into for a particular BMI - Real life examples - The Waist-to-Hip ratio - Plus, what and how many measures you should be paying to attention to. This is my 10 minute BlogCast. Every Monday, I'll release a 10 minute or less podcast talking about my blog for the week. You can find the written blog at www.JacobAndreae.com
