I Just Signed Up for Best Year Ever Again and Here’s Why

goal setting new years resolutions Dec 21, 2015

We all start the new year full of hopes, dreams and anticipation. Well… hopes and dreams feel nice but they aren’t a plan. They aren’t anything but a thought and a feeling unless you create a plan and be intentional about making them happen. Most people won’t bother to do this because acting on those dreams is hard work and causes discomfort. But I know you’re not that person because you’re reading this. As someone who reads my blogs, I encourage you to check out this course.

At about this same time last year, while doing some research on the internet, I came across a guy by the name of Michael Hyatt and his goal setting course, Best Year Ever. He was promoting an ebook called, ‘Set Yourself Up for Your Best Year Ever: The 8 Strategies Super-Successful High Achievers Use to Prepare for the New Year’. By the end of the book I would’ve bought anything from him, and I did. I purchased his ‘5 Days to Your Best Year Ever’ course. Little did I know at that time, it would become the foundation for my year and the reason 2015 was not only my most successful year to date, but my Best Year Ever. I can wholeheartedly say that because I truly believe it.

The new year is a time that brings hope. It’s a time in our lives that lends itself to opportunities for a fresh start. This empowers people to feel motivated, enthusiastic and positive about what’s possible. New years resolutions don’t really work and traditional goal setting will only get you so far. What you need is a proven plan and this course gave me the ability to go well beyond previous years to make 2015 my best year ever.

What I Got and Why I’m Doing It Again

  • A belief in what’s possible. I thought I’d ridded myself of any limiting beliefs and fears. The first part of this course gets you to believe in the possibility and acknowledge what could hold you back. This helped me realise just how abundant my mindset had become, but it also showed me that there were still a few little demons hiding in my mind. I believe this step is the foundation for making anything worthwhile successful.

  • A reflection of my past. I’ve always been good at goal setting and achieving my goals. However, when I reflected on the past, I discovered some key themes that arose from years past. Recognising, acknowledging and dealing with these key themes allowed me to dream big and overcome some of the final obstacles that were holding me back.

  • A design for the future. I’m a very visual person and designing my year the way I wanted it to look, allowed me to get a clear picture. With this picture in mind, I was able to easily recognise when I started deviating off track. It also gave me a sense of familiarity, which reduced my anxiety and gave me peace of mind.

  • A clear understanding of why I wanted to achieve my goals. Really connecting with your goals emotionally is imperative to success, particularly for longer term goals. There will be ebbs and flows throughout the year and life get busy. Your motivation will slide and you will be left wondering, ‘what is the point’, at one time or another. Connecting emotionally with why your goals are meaningful allows you to get through these times. There were times in the year when I wasn't getting any traction on my goals. I realised that my why wasn’t inspiring me enough, so rather than feel like I failed; I revised, replaced or removed those goals to narrow my focus.

  • A simple new system for ensuring I achieved my goals. I’ve always set goals and displayed them nicely, looked at them regularly and planned them out. As a result, I’ve had a decent level of success with goal setting in the past. The big improvement came when I set aside time to work on my goals. I scheduled one to two hours each week to take action on each goals very next step. This enabled me to achieve my goals faster and it created new opportunities that I wouldn’t otherwise have noticed. This was the cornerstone for my success.

When I reflect on how far I’ve come in the last twelve months, I get excited about where I’ll be in another twelve months. There were many circumstances that got me to where I am currently, but one key component of getting me to here, was doing the Best Year Ever course. I can’t wait to do it again.
